Discount Photo Editing Software

A number of software resellers or retailers sell discount photo editing software packages that have all the features of branded software. Discount software retailers buy standard software in volumes and pass on the benefits to the final consumer. They also buy software from companies that are overstocked or are going out of business. Other purchase venues include auctions and closeouts that offer software at discounted rates.

Photo editing software uses high quality resampling algorithms to produce the best quality prints possible independent of the printer type and resolution of original images. It simplifies the process of managing DPI, print sizes, and resolution numbers. It has efficient and simple tools to automatically arrange multiple prints so that they use the least amount of expensive photo paper.

The software allows auto placement and full manual placement for maximum flexibility. Images of varied sizes can be printed from different folders and drives in the same session. It has different enhancement tools such as cropping, brightness, sharpening, auto-exposure compensation, filters, blemish and redeye removal, image rotation, and image information stamp. Users can apply filters to images as "masks" that eliminates the need to store separate copies of original and modified versions. Filters can also be applied to a single image or hundreds of different images from various folders in a batch.

It provides full color management (ICC) support and can link ICC profiles to multiple cameras separately ensuring the most accurate color possible. It also supports profile-to-profile conversions for images, and soft proofing. It supports different file formats such as JPEG, TIF, BMP, GIF, PCX, TGA, PCD, PNG, PSD, and NEF (Nikon D1, D1H, D1X, and D100 raw). It allows users to copy, move, delete, auto-rename images based on date, download images from flash cards and search IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council) fields. The easy to use features of discount photo editing software have enabled users to manage the complex task of formatting and printing digital images. Reduction in prices of digital cameras has increased its popularity and is fuelling the demand for discount photo editing software.

10 Really Low-Cost Ways to Start Your Stamp Collection

Stamp collecting doesn’t have to be an expensive hobby. You can enjoy collecting stamps with limited financial resources. Here are 10 really low-cost ways to start stamp collecting.

1. Ask your friends to use commemorative stamps on their mail when they write to you. Commemorative stamps are generally larger than regular stamps and are issued to honor famous people, places, or events. Because commemorative stamps are usually issued in lesser quantities than common smaller stamps, they are of much more interest to collectors. Tell your friends that you are a stamp collector and ask them to request commemorative stamps at the post office.

2. When you send away for offers that require postage or self-addressed, stamped envelopes, use commemorative stamps. You’ll get them back when the envelopes are returned to you.

3. Ask your neighbors, friends, and relatives to save their used stamps for you. You’ll find that most people will be happy to save their stamps for you when they learn that you are a collector.

4. If you know someone who gets letters from other countries, ask them to save those stamps. Always be on the lookout for potentially good stamp contacts, and don't be afraid to ask them to go through their mail for you before they throw away all the envelopes.

5. Ask friends and family to save the envelopes from their office mail for you. Many businesses get a lot of foreign mail and regularly throw away stamps that have interest and value to a collector.

6. Ask your parents if they have any old letters with stamps on the envelopes. Don’t peel the stamp off the envelope. This will cause thin spots or tears, both of which ruin a stamp's appearance and lessen its value to collectors. Always tear off the envelope corner so that there is paper all around the stamp, and make sure that all of the perforations are undamaged.

7. If you know other stamp collectors, ask them if they have duplicates that they are willing to give or sell to you. Many collectors have thousands of duplicates and they are often willing to help get new philatelists get started by giving them stamps or by selling them packets of stamps much more cheaply than can be purchased in stores or by mail.

8. Look for free stamps advertised by stamp companies. Free stamps are often offered along with “approvals,” an assortment of other stamps that you must either buy or return. This can be a convenient way to buy stamps. Note, however, that you usually have to pay the return postage if you return the approval stamps.

9. Check out stamp clubs in your area. Clubs may offer stamps as prizes, or have inexpensive stamps you can afford to buy. Some stamp clubs sponsor junior clubs the local community center, YMCA, or schools.

10. Consider starting a stamp club if one doesn’t already exist in your area. It only takes four or five other stamp collectors who are interested in getting together to learn about and trade stamps and ideas.

With free stamps and a few inexpensive accessories, such as a small album and a package of stamp hinges, even collectors with little money can have a great time.

So, what are you waiting for? Start collecting stamps today!

How To Stamp Home Made Soap With Your Personality

I really enjoy making hand made soap and stamping it with my own personality. You could use a “hand made” stamp for example. You can even get your own custom made stamps made. You could stamp a logo or line-art drawing on your soap. How about a cupid for Valentine’s Day soap, or a Christmas tree for Christmas soap?

Or you could stamp your soap with your own name. Or make up your own little logo to put on the soap you give as gifts to friends and family. You’re only limited by your imagination!

There are all kinds of different soap molds available these days. Think up a shape and you can probably buy it in a soap mold! For example, gingerbread men, flowers, hearts, seashells, Christmas trees, stars, et cetera. I think making soap in fun molds is more interesting than the ordinary bar shape. You can buy a bar of soap from anywhere, but where can you buy a gingerbread man soap?

As well as putting your own stamp on your home made soap and using a fun mold, another way you can give your soap personality is by creating your own recipe, including unusual color and fragrance combinations. For example, vanilla mocha swirl, coconut cream pie or lemon meringue. Soap fragrances and colors are readily available online if you don’t live near a craft shop.

Here’s a soap making idea: by putting all three methods together, you’re sure to create a one of a kind soap that no one’s seen before! For example, a vanilla mocha swirl gingerbread man, with your name stamped on the back. Or a lemon meringue Christmas tree soap with a stamp saying “Merry Christmas from” and your name.

Anytime is a great time to start making your own soap. But be warned! Once you start, you may not be able to stop, because making your own hand made soap is addictive!

Date Stamp Prices

Date stamps are primarily an animated version of the rubber stamp category. The use of date rubber stamps extends very widely in offices, business homes and government offices and as an art form. The craft makes use of ink that is applied to an image or pattern that has been engraved, molded, or vulcanized onto a sheet of rubber. The date stamp is one of the most convenient and efficient methods of officiating administrative procedure in a business environment. It is widely used to keep a constant check on documents that have been received, sent, signed for, documented and reviewed.

Many companies manufacture date stamps across America. Their popularity and demand has grown tremendously since this dormant technology has been accepted. The manufacturing process of date stamps is a completely mechanized and automated process. Ink coated date stamp is pressed onto any type of medium such that the colored image is transferred onto the medium. The medium is generally some type of fabric or paper. Other mediums used are wood, metal, glass, plastic, or rocks. High volume batik uses liquid wax instead of ink on a metal stamp.

Rubber stamp prices are determined by the style. Date stamps can be personalized by adding company name, logos, contact details or other required details. Date stamps are available in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and styles, from the traditional date stamps that require a stamp pad, to the heavy duty, metal framed, self-inking date stamps. Options for date stamps include time and date stamps, numbering stamps and automatic numbering stamps.

The two main categories of commercially available date stamps are the ones used for office purpose and the ones used for decorating objects such as children's toys. The prices of the date stamps vary according to their various styles and designs. A complete list of the price lists and different stamps available in the markets can be viewed on the Internet. The customers can also contemplate their own rubber stamps and design varying templates on the surface. The site provides with the charges for such customized stamps and guarantees delivery in almost 24 hrs of ordering it.

How To Take A Better Holiday Photo

So you want to take a better holiday photo with your digital camera? But you are finding it hard to get that perfect shot? Here are five basic tips to help you get that better holiday photo.

Tip one: Take that holiday photo from a different angle. Get down low for example. Shooting a holiday photo from a different angle adds interest and can produce good effects.

Tip Two: Fill the frame! Create impact by getting up close. The difference will be stunning – try it, you’ll like it.

Tip Three: Don’t shoot the subject smack bang in the middle of the holiday photo! Use the ‘Thirds Rule’. The horizon should be at the top or lower third of the photo. The subject should be either on the left or right third of the photo. Keep the ‘Thirds Rule’ as a basic guideline and the end result should create a rewording holiday photo album.

Tip Four: Be brave! Don’t use the AUTO setting to shoot your holiday photo. Take control. For portraits, use low aperture - around 2.8. For landscapes, use high aperture - around 16. Don’t be afraid to experiment. It is digital after all – you will not be wasting any film! For action holiday photos, use a fast shutter speed.

Tip Five: Use high resolution. Low resolution is good when you want to use your holiday photos on your website, but low resolution is no good for printing. Set your camera to a high resolution. If you have to – buy a bigger memory card. It will be worth it when you get that holiday photo you just LOVE – you’ll be able to do so much more with that holiday photo. Go on – blow it up and turn it into a poster!

Rubber Stamps: Signature Stamps, Notary Stamps And Other Stamps Used By Businesses

Since at least the 1900s, rubber stamps have been utilized in all aspects of business, and fill varied, significant needs for businesses of all types. Nearly ten years ago, an offer to come work for a rubber stamp shop was met with hesitation, given the proliferation of computers. The thought was that rubber stamps would be made obsolete as a result of the trend toward paperless offices and technologically advanced computers capable of, for example, printing watermarks directly on the paper.

On the contrary, however, rubber stamps remain a necessary component for many businesses and, in fact, the uses for rubber stamps have expanded into areas such as signature stamps, for deposit only stamps, notary stamps and others. Creation of a signature stamp is as easy as sending a fax copy of your signature to a stamp company equipped with the right machine, such as Holmes Stamp Company. Notary stamps or seals are required for legal documents and sworn signatures. Many businesses use stamps to facilitate the tracking of documents, from “received” stamps that indicate the date and time a document was received, to “draft” stamps or “reviewed by” stamps, plus the stamps that fill banking needs (such as “for deposit only” or “paid” stamps).

Advances in the rubber stamp industry have resulted in improved quality of the stamps and the ink they use, a wider array of sizes and shapes of rubber stamps available and the integration of stamps in all kinds of products, including self-inking stamps that have the ink built right in! Rubber stamps come in virtually any size and shape imaginable and ink color choices are endless. Computers have actually helped the proliferation of rubber stamps because, with email and on-line catalogues, a person in California can get their rubber stamp designed, manufactured and shipped from Florida within one day! Also thanks to computers,.

At Holmes Stamp, we offer the full range of rubber stamp products – some of our customers have been with us since our business started over fifty years ago, and we are proud to get new customers every day. Given the varied and expansive use of rubber stamps and signature stamps, despite computers that are more intelligent and better equipped every day, rubber stamps are here to stay.

A Myriad Of Ways To Use A Religious Rubber Stamp

One reason for the popularity of rubber stamps is their versatility with a variety of crafts, including scrap-booking, cards, and paper arts. However, certain types of rubber stamps are a little more limited in how you will probably want to use them. Here are some of the ways that you can use a religious rubber stamp around your home, church, or school in an expressive way.

There are several ways that you can use religious rubber stamps in your home. You probably would not want to use a stamp to decorate furniture or walls. However, there are many other ways that you can use one for decorating. One way to use this type of rubber stamp is to decorate that special area of your home that you use for religious study. Decorate plain white cloths for end tables used to hold scriptures. You could also create or decorate covers for your prayer journals or other books for study and reflection.

Another way that you can use a religious rubber stamp is to create or decorate bible carriers and covers. You can also use it to decorate or create book covers for school books and other books of interest. This will give you an excellent opening for religious conversations outside the home or church.

The decorating of wedding accessories, such as Wedding invitations, announcements, programs, and napkins, is a way rubber stamp crafts can allow a couple to express their faith and devotion to their religion as well as each other. It will also give guests an idea of what to expect at the wedding ceremony.

Religious rubber stamps are also great for decorating Sunday school materials such as attendance charts, bible study games, and prizes. They can also be used to decorate bulletin boards or church announcements. Baptism certificates or church membership certificates could also use the personal touch of a religious rubber stamp.

Finally, a stamp with a religious theme is great for thank you notes or just a post card to let someone know you care. A religious rubber stamp combined with a powerful scripture verse can often brighten one’s spirits and help them renew their strength. This rubber stamping idea would also be great for get well cards.

If your considering purchasing a religious rubber stamp, but worry about its limited use, with a little creativity, you'll find your stamp can be used in a wide variety of applications. By purchasing an aesthetically pleasing, high quality stamp, you'll find many uses for it for years to come.

Quick Refrigerator Magnets

These little refrigerator magnets go together quickly and make charming gifts for the holidays. Present them in a decorated tin for the perfect packaging. Try different stamps for different occasions--Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's Day, Independence Day. Also try mini drawings of your own, or even specialty paper.

Supplies

  • Card Stock

  • Tiny Stamps

  • Dye Ink Pads

  • Bottled Stamp Cleaner

  • Paper Towels

  • Color Pencils

  • 1/2" Round Punch or Craft Knife

  • 1/2" Button Magnets

  • 3/4" Flat-backed glass gems

  • Silicon Glue

Before beginning, gather all the supplies listed above and lay out some scrap paper to protect the work surface. The gems will magnify the images, so make sure the images will be viewable under the gems by stamping or drawing on scrap paper and viewing through the glass gem.

Stamp images on the cardstock using dye ink. Clean the stamps with stamp cleaner and a paint pad. Open the stamp cleaner bottle and tap it on the stamp to saturate the rubber. Then tap the stamp on a paper towel and wipe stamp on a dry, clean paint pad to remove any remaining residue. Blot the stamp cleaner bottle on a towel to remove excess dye from the applicator tip. Cleaning the stamps immediately will remove any residual dye and prolong the life of the stamps.

Color the stamped images with colored pencils. Use the circle punch to punch out the stamped images, or cut out the images using a craft knife.

When the images have been punched or cut, put a dot of silicone glue on the image and gently press glass gem onto it. Do not press too firmly or too much of the silicone will be pressed out and air bubbles may form between the gem and the card stock.

Put a dot of silicone glue on a magnet and press the glass gem with stamped image onto the magnet. Repeat for each magnet. Let the magnet(s) cure overnight. Package the finished magnets in a decorated tin (spray paint an old mint tin and stamp, or decoupage).

How To Take Care Of Your Postage Stamps Collection

Apart from being a fun and great hobby, collecting postage stamps can also be considered an important and financially rewarding leisure pursuit. For one, there’s very good money in keeping and selling commemorative or rare postage stamps. Also, stamps may be small and simple but they stand for a piece of history, a certain individual and a country. Hence, it’s important to value every postage stamp.

There are a number of ways to take care of these valuable collectibles. First off, you can buy a waterproof stamp album. Make sure that you buy enough pieces so as to accommodate your entire collection. Alternatively, you may want to purchase a stock book with small pockets you can insert the stamps into. Choose an album that has enough space for each stamp. Let the stamp “breathe”. Besides, it would also look better if each and every stamp gets “featured”. Keep the album off a busy desk and keep food, cigarettes, lighters, matches and drinks at bay. Avoid accidents! Secondly, don’t use your fingers in handling stamps. Experts of philately (the study of stamps) say that any outside matter such as a fingerprint can decrease the stamp’s value. This is why experts discourage the mere use of fingers to take a stamp off an envelope. They reckon that the best way to take it off is to let the stamped envelope undergo a process called “steaming”. Ask where you can buy a pair of flat bladed stamp collector’s tongs. Use this to transfer each stamp. Avoid using the regular pair of tweezers! The tweezers’ sharp points may damage the stamp.

Thirdly, avoid using both sides of an album page. Doing this allows the stamps on one side to come in contact with the stamps on the other side of the page. Don’t let that happen since it may decrease the value of the stamp. Fourthly, use inserts for the album. Place them in between pages to further keep the stamps from coming in contact with each other. An ideal insert can be as thin as onion skin paper. Don’t hesitate to ask the local school supply store which inserts are usually bought by stamp collectors. Fifthly, purchase stamp mounts or clear plastic sleeves with gummed surface. Use these to handle the precious stamps that are still in mint condition. The mounts can help protect the stamps since the gummed surface can maintain the adhesive on the back of the precious stamp. Lastly, never let your stamps get in contact with direct sunlight. This can cause discoloration and can also melt the adhesive on the back of the stamp.

Preserve your stamps by following these steps. Your collection deserves nothing but proper care.

Interesting Stamp Collecting Supply Items For Intermediate Collectors

When you have been collecting stamps for a while, you may begin getting more involved in identifying and evaluating your collection. You will likely have learned things that help you get a more detailed idea of what your collection holds. When you reach this point, there may be a stamp collecting supply that you need to purchase. You can find most of these supplies in a product book from a supply company. You can sometimes find them in hobby shops, although smaller hobby shops are not likely to carry them. Take a look at these interesting stamp collecting supply items for intermediate collectors.

Perforation Gauge

When you are trying to correctly identify your stamps, there may come a time when you need a perforation gauge. This tool is used to measure the number of holes per 2cm length of the stamp’s perforations. Perforations are the tiny holes between the blocks of stamps. You have likely always seen them but may have never paid close attention to them at first. There may be an instance when you are dealing with two stamps that look alike and are issued the same. It is likely however that they have a different perforation count. This may or may not determine that the stamp is rarer than others that look like it or more valuable.

Watermark Detector

Another interesting supply item for an intermediate or advanced collector is a watermark detector. This tool helps you view hidden embossed or imprinted patterns on your stamp. These marks were made on the paper the stamp was printed on. Some stamps don’t have watermarks. There are cases in which two stamps seem identical, but they have different watermarks. This tool is great for properly identifying rare and unusual stamps. A watermark detector can also identify forgeries.

Stamp Magazines

When you get more interested in collecting, you will likely want to start subscribing to a stamp magazine. These magazines will help you with tips and tools of the trade. They will offer features from other collectors and will show you different products and tools to use in collecting. They are very interesting and can be wonderful gifts for an avid stamp collector. A stamp magazine is one stamp collecting supply that every collector will enjoy. It can be a great way to see what other collectors are doing and what the experts have to say about stamp collecting as well.

Self Inking Rubber Stamps

Self-inking stamps are characterized by their separate die and re-inking pad, incorporated into a convenient spring-loaded mount. Pressing down on the top of the mount makes the stamp impression. The stamp die rotates away from the pad and down on to the area to be stamped. Self-ink stamps are mid-priced, and they cost more than conventional stamps, but less than pre-inked stamps.

The number of lines and the mount size determines the prices of self-ink stamps. Usually, 6 self-ink mount sizes are available. Care should be taken to avoid banging or applying excessive pressure on these self-inking stamps. The stamps should be pressed down firmly over the area to be stamped and pressure should be applied evenly. The advent of self-ink stamps has ensured consistent impressions and allows easy alignment to information on brochures, business cards and envelopes. A single ink refill would enable the user to make thousands of impressions.

Self-inking stamps are flexible to use as they can be dismantled easily. This facilitates changing the ink color at will. Self-inkpads are available in small to large sizes varying upon the number of lines. These stamps also do away with the need to carry a separate stamp and inkpad, adding to the convenience factor. The stamps are recyclable, hence when a change of information is required on the stamp, only the rubber die needs to be changed.

Self-ink stamps are made of heavy-duty plastics designed to give years of clear, quality impressions. Other features include non-slip rubber feet, clear label window to show full stamp text, and a secure locking mechanism. The stamp has an easy access pad, which can be re-inked or changed to give you thousands of additional quality impressions.

It is a useful tool used to ease the problems of drying ink in a regular rubber stamp inkpad.

Stamps

Stamps are authorized impressions or marks used for the prepayment of a tax or fee. It is an official mark or seal indicating an approval, ownership, or payment of tax. The history of stamps can be traced back to the sixteenth century. The first official royal mail office was opened in England in 1516. Later, mail was required to be paid for by the recipient rather than the sender; this system proved too problematic for everyone because of the resulting preponderance of undelivered mail. The concept of adhesive postage stamp was introduced by James Chalmers in Great Britain in 1834. Brazil issued stamps in 1843, and in the United States, the adhesive postage stamp was officially issued in 1847.

The world’s first prepaid postage stamp, known as Penny Black, was issued on May 6, 1840, with the profile of Queen Victoria printed on it. Rowland Hill invented the first adhesive postage stamp. By and by, stamps picturing various personalities, instances and festivals came to be issued. Stamps brought in a new brand of hobbyists called philatelists. Stamps have undergone many changes and today they come in various sizes, designs, and formats.

Revenue stamps are an indirect way of collecting taxes. Many documents such as contracts and agreements are to be affixed with revenue stamps. Revenue stamps are older than postage stamps historically.

Today, stamp collection is a popular hobby among children as well as adults around the world. Old and rare stamps are sold and bought at high prices, sometimes even millions of dollars.

Another popular type are ornamental stamp sets, which often include not only a set of decorative stamps, but also include colorful envelopes, which you can make yourself in minutes, and mailing labels, which you can customize to your preferences.

Stamp sets are incredibly versatile, as they can be used as a group, and broken up and used as individual stamps. If you have a specific project you're working on, such as cards, or a scrapbook, having a set will insure that your project has a unified theme, which will enhance the quality of your work, will still allowing for your own finishing touches. Good types of unified theme stamps to start off with include alphabet stamps, or large background stamps. Both of these sets can be used for a variety of applications.

Also, some of the large stamp sets are a great value, as you get many more stamps at a much lower price than you would get if you purchased them separately. With a few quality sets, you'll have the backbone for a great rubber stamp collection, which you can then customize with individual stamps. If you haven't already, you may want to consider investing in a few rubber stamp sets to round out your rubber stamping collection.

Belonging to a Rubber Stamp Club

Often, when people hear the words “rubber stamp club”, they can’t figure out what kind of club this would be. Is it a club where people create rubber stamps? Is it a club where people trade rubber stamps? Actually, it is a club where these things happen and more. A rubber stamp club is, obviously, all about rubber stamping, and believe it nor not, there can be quite a bit to this hobby.

Many people know about using rubber stamps for various things such as marking children’s school papers, adding cute effects to letters, or stamping dates on things, but these days they can be used for much more. People use rubber stamps for creative crafts, and many times the designs on these rubber stamps can be quite elaborate. When you belong to a rubber stamp club, you have the benefit of being able to share what you know about this hobby with others, and they can share what they know with you. For craft purposes, different types of inks can be used, or hobbyists can use paint on their pads or even markers where they apply to ink directly to the stamp, instead of pressing the stamp on an ink pad. Rubber stamps can have a metal base, or a wood base. Most hobbyists prefer the wood base.

The designs for rubber stamps are endless. Hobbyists can get such designs as those for the different holidays, animal designs, floral designs, etc. Rubber stamps can be personalized, or more serious rubber stamp enthusiasts can even design their own. Many craft stores carry a myriad of rubber stamps and rubber stamp designs, and there are also many Internet websites that specialize in selling rubber stamps and rubber stamp designs. When there is a club, there are sure to be many club members who make their own rubber stamp designs, or at the very least know where to find unique hard-to-find designs for rubber stamps. Also, many rubber stamp club members know how to create elaborate works of art using rubber stamps, and will sell or trade their art with other club members. Using such things as multi-colored stamps, very large stamps or very small stamps, people can really turn rubber stamping into an art form.

Personalizing Memory Books

Personalizing items like memory books shows you’ve taken an extra step and care. But personalizing does not have to mean just adding your name, although it can. Here are ways to add a personal touch to your memory book.

  • Name Plate – Have a name plate engraved or you add your own printed name plate to the cover.

  • Special Photo – select a special photo and really go to town on it, making it shine: ask for a reprint, ordered to size for your memory book cover, ask about tinting, getting any red-eye out, trimming for better focal point, zooming in, etc.

  • Matting – Select a nice matting that coordinates well with your book binding, photos, name plate and any other images and features on the outside of your book.

  • Book Title – Think about including a special tag of saying, maybe a little history blurb, for the outside of your book. Plus get creative with font and ink colors. For example, you might choose a romantic script, write in red ink and coordinate this “Memories of the Darling Family...” paragraph with the red hearts on your matting and honeymoon cottage photo.

  • Date stamp – A date stamp can help make your book “established” and give it a more authentic look.

  • Inside Cover – You might want to add your home address, phone and other contact information inside the front cover in case you leave your book somewhere accidentally.

  • Back Cover – Treat this similar to the front. Think about the last paperback you read. The author photo and biography was probably there. So add you’re here, too. How about a nice professional family photo with a paragraph mentioning everyone, the home area (state and country), season the shot was taken, family pet info, etc.

  • Budget Concerns – Check out whether or not it’s better for your budget if you hire the memory book personalization done or whether you should do it yourself. Places like Cord Camera shops have inside store tools and computers to use to help with reprinting your own photos. Plus if you’re interested in professionally printing and binding your own memory book, local print shops like Kinkos could be handy and online companies that offer these services like http://instantpublisher.com and http://www.lulu.com.

Postage Stamp Collecting

Stamp collecting is one of the world's most popular hobbies. It includes the collecting of postage stamps as well as related objects. Related objects include envelopes or packages with stamps on them.

Stamp collecting is often mistaken for the term philately. Philately is the study of stamps and not collecting of stamps. Philatelists often collect objects of their study. However, it is not mandatory for them to do so. Usually, casual collectors gather stamps without taking into consideration the minute details. Nevertheless, collecting stamps in comprehensive or large quantities require philatelic knowledge. In some small countries, limited runs of elaborate stamps are designed so that stamp collectors purchase them. In these countries, stamp collectors prove to be a vital source of revenue. In such countries, the stamps produced exceed the postal needs of the country by a commendable margin.

People that indulge in stamp collecting generally observe the rise in prices of rare stamps. Some stamp collectors also indulge in Philatelic investment. Rare stamps are tangible investments and are portable. Collections of rare stamps are an attractive alternative to art and precious metals.

In order for stamps to be kept safely, it is advisable that they are kept in an album or stock sheet. There are different stamps that people normally prefer collecting. The most common type of stamps collected is known as definitive stamps. These stamps are generally printed daily.

Other stamps that are collected are commemorative stamps. These are special and are used to commemorate events, anniversaries, weddings, and birth. These stamps are sold only for a limited time and are mostly available at stamp dealers.

People also collect pictorial stamps as well. These stamps are printed with the lifestyle of the country as well as the country's scenery.

Revenue stamps that were also used in government documents were also collected previously. These were also used for telegrams. Stamp collecting is a widespread practice, even at present. This hobby is enjoyed by all ages. This is an attractive art and is studied by a section of people.

Stamp Collecting by Theme-An Individualist Approach

Stamp collecting has taken an interesting turn in recent years. Rather than buying a stamp album with printed pages showing illustrations of each stamp to be pursued, many collectors are creating their own unique collections reflecting personal interests.

Themed collections can focus on stamps from the collector's native country or abroad; on particular historical periods; on famous individuals depicted on stamps; or on animals, flowers, or any number of other themes.

Follow the major events of American history as illustrated by stamps issued over the years; or analyze the rise and decline of the British Empire with stamps from British India, Ceylon, Burma, and other former colonies. Collect stamps from around the world honoring the late Princess Diana, or stamps reflecting the popular culture of many countries.

The first postage stamp in the world was printed in 1840 by Britain. The "Penny Black" was followed quickly the same year by stamps from the young United States; by 1860 most countries around the world were issuing their own stamps to facilitate mail delivery. While no one knows precisely when stamp collecting became a hobby, it certainly followed soon after the widespread use of stamps.

Specializing in vintage stamps can be a costly enterprise, but stamp collecting doesn't have to be expensive. Choosing to focus on current issues from around the world lowers the cost considerably; numerous dealers offer wide-ranging collections for often remarkably inexpensive prices, along with the tools and supplies needed to care for and display stamps.

Stamp collecting opens up a vast body of knowledge to the collector. Every stamp issued is a tiny window onto the world, a glimpse into a country's culture, politics, and natural environment as well as a chronicle of the main events in its existence.

It's quite a hobby.

Pre-Inked Rubber Stamps Work Smarter

Traditionally people have been using rubber stamps to put a seal on the important documents – marking the company name or other endorsements. These stamps have to be pressed on an inkpad first and then on the surface where the stamp is needed. Recently pre-inked stamps have made their way in the market and are highly preferred because of their neatness and superior print quality.

Pre-inked stamps can be used for marking on any surface. These stamps are fast drying and water-resistant which makes it perfect for identifying personal items, photography, industrial equipment etc. There is no need of separate inkpads because the ink is present within the stamp itself. A clean, crisp impression is obtained every time a pre-inked stamp is used. Some commonly used messages in pre-inked rubber stamps are “WE APPRECIATE YOUR BUSINESS”, “THANK YOU FOR YOUR PAYMENT”, “PLEASE VISIT US AGAIN”, “A/C PAYEE ONLY”, “SEASON’S GREETINGS”. This helps to create a favorable impression on the customers about the organization concerned.

A pre-inked rubber stamp has ink within its own ink-saturated rubber die. The ink oozes it's way out through a rubber face of the stamp. They are also available in slightly larger sizes. These also last longer. Usually the quality of the stamp die is much better than both traditional stamps and self-inking stamps. Sometimes these are titled as ‘premium' choice of rubber stamps. The advantages of pre-ink rubber stamps are that they offer a better image quality than self-inking stamps.

Prestostamps manufactures high quality pre-inked rubber stamps for use in the office and the factory. These create a better impression on the article and the customer. Visit them at www.prestostamps.com

Stamp Collecting Basics

Stamp collecting is the most popular hobby in the world. Philately is a broader term for the study of stamps, and it is frequently - but wrongly - equated to stamp collecting.

Through stamp collecting, people find information about history, currency, science, politics, arts, architecture and customs of different nations and countries of the world. All stamp collectors have fun with their stamps because no collection is ever complete, and there is always a challenge.

First, decide whether you would like to collect unused (mint) or used (canceled) stamps. If starting a mint stamp collection, purchase unused stamps from the post office. And if you see interesting stamps coming in the mail - collect them.

Many collectors prefer used stamps because they are less expensive or they may cost you nothing.

Some collectors save stamps by "topic": for instance, if you are interested in ships, you may want to collect stamps of ships and boats. Car fans often collect stamps with cars on them. You can disregard the countries and only collect stamps that have pictures that you like. Some people like to collect stamps of one or several countries, but which are all of the same subject. Popular topical themes are birds, cats, butterflies, flowers, sports, space, art, chess, famous people and other.

Specialized collecting means that you can collect all the varieties of a single stamp or collect stamps used for a special purpose.

Country collecting is usually done chronologically by date of issue, sub-divided into reigns or political periods.

Some collectors specialize in collecting only the first stamps, one for each country that has ever issued a postage stamp, or collecting first-day covers.

Some areas of collecting cost less than ten cents a stamp, while others can cost thousands of dollars.

A lot of people collect "Cinderellas" - stamps that are not official stamps issued by a country's postal administration. Cinderella collectors include in their collections local postage issues, telegraph stamps, tax stamps, forgeries and counterfeits.

The "hobbies" section of your local library may have basic books about stamp collecting, and the reference department may have a set of stamp-collecting catalogs. To find the value of a specific stamp, visit some good stamp-collecting web sites.

If looking for more information on stamps and stamp collecting, the local post office is the best place to start.

The Effective Use of Unmounted Rubber Stamps For The Rubber Stamp Crafter

As a rubber stamper, unmounted rubber stamps may have caught your eye at some point. As their name suggests, these are stamp images only, that need to be placed on a holder before you can stamp the image. If you are planning to build a rubber stamp collection, you may want to try out unmounted rubber stamps. They are less expensive, and do not take up nearly as much space as traditional mounted stamps. You can store them in a flat surface, such as in a protective sheet in a three ring binder, and numerous other storage options.

Unmounted rubber stamps consist of the stamp artwork, sometimes with a bit of a cushion underneath. The stamp is then mounted on a block, either wooden, or what I prefer, the clear acrylic blocks for temporary mounting. When finished using the stamp, you can easily take the stamp off the mount and store it again. I'll be discussing temporary mounting options, as they let you take advantage of the ease and convenience of flat storage.

The supplies for mounting a stamp are relatively simple. You'll need some type of adhesive, a block that fits the size of your image, and your stamping supplies. Repositional glue, such as a re-tacking glue you can use over and over is popular, and can be purchased at craft stores. Another popular option that I use is vinyl cling, which works with acrylic mounts. Using static electricity, the vinyl cling material acts as its own kind of sticky cushion, which attaches the block and rubber stamp together. Yet another popular system is a hook and loop system called the HALOS system, which requires special materials.

Before you get started, you'll want to trim your stamp with scissors, being careful not to cut into the stamp image. If using foam, you'll also want to trim the foam before mounting it to the block, making sure the foam edges match the block edges. If the foam edges are peaking out of the block, the edges of the foam may pick up ink and spoil your image. Once everything is trimmed, place the foam on the block, and then the stamp image on the foam, and you are ready to ink and stamp.

Its important to clean your stamps before putting them away. The best way is with a bottle of specialty stamp cleaner with a roll-on applicator. You can just roll it onto the stamp and wipe away. Another option is to wipe the stamp with a damp cellulose sponge. Do not soak the stamp in any type of oil-based cleaner, as this will weaken the rubber. For creativity, and ease of storage and use, give unmounted rubber stamps a try.

Stamp Collecting - Not Just for Kids

Starting a stamp collection can be a rewarding and fun hobby. Not just for kids anymore, stamp collecting – or philately – has become one of the world’s oldest and most popular forms of collecting. The advantages of stamp collecting include:

• Learning about stamps which have been issued by other countries of the world over the years
• Appreciating stamps as works of art – colourful, well-printed, and well-designed
• Understanding the purpose of the stamp – whether it is to commemorate famous people or events, flowers, railways, flags, or space and sport

Stamp Collection

Stamp collections can provide both entertainment and education. By learning about all the stamps which have been issued by the countries of the world, you can begin to understand another country’s geography and history. Stamps collection is also a practical way to learn the politics, religion, and everyday way of life in different parts of the world. Stamps also open a world of education in a country’s postal services and postal history, transport systems, and the significance of postmarks.

Want to Start Collecting?

Many stamp collectors have advice for those looking to get into the stamp collecting scene, however, the best advice to the novice is to buy the largest packet of whole-world stamps you can afford. Also, consider buying with this purchase, a medium-priced album and some ‘hinges’ to mount the stamps. By buying a large amount of stamps at first, you can then go through most of the stamps, identifying those which you don’t believe you can find in the stamp collectors catalogue for identifying purposes.

Sources of Stamps

To keep your stamp collection moving along, there are several different types of stamps and locations to pursue:

• Persuade your friends to save your stamps from those letters mailed to them from abroad
• You can buy stamps from the UK Post – several times a year, the UK Post will issue special stamps for those interested in collecting
• There are several stamp magazines where you can see and meet other collectors
• Review the online stamp collecting websites for forums and discussion on where to get the latest stamp collection tips

Stamp Collecting and Increasing Worth

Over the years, as stamps age and their rarity increase, the worth of the stamp can increase tenfold. The condition of the stamp is vitally important to its worth. Nothing detracts more from the value of a stamp than a crease, tear, or heavy postmark. Damaged stamps are generally considered useless and worthless, so be wary of your collection when adding stamps.

If you are looking to make the most of your stamp collection, have unused stamps in their original gum as issued by the post office. Also, the ideal postmark is light and clear, as heavy postmarks decrease the value of the stamp by large amounts.

If you are already realizing that there is much more to stamp collecting then first thought, you are right! Stamp collecting can be extremely rewarding if you take the time to pursue it as a serious hobby. Consider learning more about your planet and start your stamp collection today.

Stamp Collecting 101

Of course, that stamp was not the kind of stamp you lick and stick on an envelope. This was a one-cent stamp, circa 1856, from British Guiana—one of the rarest stamps in the world. It is these rare stamps that millions of people collect and then sell to other stamp collectors for what proves to be a happy day for buyers and a lucrative day for sellers.

Stamps go back to the mid 1800s with Great Britain issuing the first postage stamp, the “One Penny Black.” The first two U.S. stamps were printed in 1847. One of them was 5 cents, featuring the country’s first postmaster, Benjamin Franklin, on the front; the other was a black, 10-cent stamp of George Washington.

You’d think that these stamps would fetch big bucks today, but because millions were printed at the time, they can be purchased for as little as $50 a piece. And stamp popularity hasn’t lost much of its luster with certain stamps, in particular. According to the U.S. Postal Service, the Elvis Presley stamp issued in 1993 is the most popular selling stamp of all time with 124 million of them sold.

But some stamp collectors fear stamps will eventually become extinct as the use of email gains in popularity. This fear is somewhat abated by the thousands of stamp collecting organizations that remain, where stamps of all sizes, shapes, colors and types continue to be traded and sold. But should stamps ever become extinct, now is as good a time as ever to start collecting.

But collecting and maintaining mint condition stamps—both used and new—requires preparation and research. With the help of the electronic e-guide, you’ll be well on your way.

Inside, you’ll find out where to buy the best stamps, where to go for inexpensive, quality stamps, specific tools you’ll need (and why you need them), how to display your stamps without degrading the quality, how quantity plays a role in the pricing of stamps, how to determine the price of stamps (both new and old) and how not to get burned by scammers selling junk.

Types of Photo Printers

Photo printers are printers capable of printing images with or without a computer. Photo printers became popular with the coming of digital cameras. The major types of photo printers are ink-jet photo printers and the dye-sublimation photo printers.

Inkjet photo printer takes print by spraying dye-based or pigmented ink through a series of nozzles onto the photo paper. To produce high quality photos, some innovative inkjet photo printer manufacturers have come with additional colors such as light cyan and light magenta. With a resolution of 2880 dpi, most of the inkjet photo printers can produce sharp and pattern free photo prints.

HP, Canon, Kodak, and Epson are some of the famous brands of inkjet photo printers. Canon Pixma iP4000 and Epson Picture Mate are the most commonly used models of inkjet photo printers. On an average, a top quality inkjet photo printer will cost more than $150.

Dye sublimation printers, better known as dye-sub printers and thermal-dye printers, are the most popular photo printers after inkjet photo printers. In a dye-sublimation photo printer, the CMYK color ribbon is heated and the color is transferred to photo paper. The CMYK color scale includes cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. Dye sublimation photo printers have higher resolution than inkjet photo printers, and can create clear and high quality photos. When compared with inkjet photo printers, the dye sublimation photo printers are much faster. A good quality dye-sublimation photo printer will cost more than $150. Canon, Kodak, and Olympus are some of the popular brands of dye sublimation photo printers.

Other than ink-jet and dye-sublimation photo printers, laser photo printers and Fuji film PG-series are the commonly used types of photo printers. The Fuji film PG-series includes Fuji film's PG3500 and PG4000-II printers. These photo printers use a special type of dye-transfer process, which gives the photograph the look of traditional color prints.

Ideas for Using Acrylic Paint on your Scrapbooking Projects

There are such a variety of accents that can be used in any type of scrapbooking project. One of my favourite accents is acrylic paint. Acrylic paint is wonderful, because it is acid-free, dries very quickly, it's water-based, and when used undiluted, has a great opacity so you don't need much to cover things up with (even mistakes). You really can use most water-based brands, but I love the kind that Making Memories offers. The colors are just wonderful! This type of paint can be used with dry brushes, foam stamps or foam brushes and sponges, and as a base or for decoration. There are so many possibilities and here I will describe a few for you:

• Don’t know just how to accent your photo in a subtle manner? Frame it with acrylic paint in the color of your choice. Adhere the photo on the layout where it’s going to remain (so make sure that is where you want it), then take a medium sized dry brush (approx. 2 cm in width), dab a little paint onto the tip of the brush and paint along the edges of the photo (yes, on the photo) and onto the cardstock itself with just one or two strokes along each side to give it a vintage or rummage look. It makes a very special and romantic type of frame with pastels and very pop art using bright colors.

• Instead of using ink for stamping, take a foam brush, dab into your favourite color of paint and brush a thin layer onto the stamp you want to use, press onto your layout lightly. If you press too hard it might smudge. You have to figure out how to use just the right amount of pressure. Practice on a scrap sheet a few times, before you go for the real thing.

• You don’t like the color of your brads, tags or buttons? Paint them over with acrylic paint and then cover with gloss. You’ve just created your very own special embellishment! How cool is that?!

• Do you have any cardstock you never use, because you don’t like the color or you can’t find anything to match it with? What you can do is paint a base coat of white gesso for priming. That will neutralize the original color of the cardstock, so you can just paint over it for a new color of cardstock. You can also use the acrylic paint with a sponge or a stamp to make patterned cardstock from plain cardstock.

• Acrylic paint also works well on transparencies and has a great 3-D effect, especially if you’re using a stamp with the paint. You first can stamp the paint directly onto the layout and when it’s dried adhere a piece of transparency on top of the first stamped image and stamp a new coat of paint slightly off to one side of the original stamp to give it a popping out effect. It looks fabulous!

• To create special titles for your layout, you can use paint with stencils, but make sure you temporarily adhere the stencil to the page before you start to prevent it from moving around.

• If you’re using a scrapbooking frame for your layout, paint or stamp it to match the layout. You would be surprised what a difference it makes!

So, you can see how many ways there are to use acrylic paint for scrapbooking projects, although these are only a few techniques. There are so many more. Be creative, be daring and don’t be afraid to “dabble” here or “dabble” there. A little word play… Go for it! You will love it, I promise!

Stamp collecting, also known as philately, is a popular and educational past time. Stamp collectors save stamps from letters, especially those from other countries. They also search out old stamps that represent a past time. Stamp enthusiasts can be found everywhere. Their notebooks and glassine envelopes filled with stamps are fascinating to look through. Many of the stamps they collect are very valuable as well.

Materials needed for starting a stamp collection include a stamp album and special mounting tapes called hinges. Tools you will find useful are a pair of small tongs or tweezers for carefully lifting delicate old stamps and a magnifying glass for finding minute details. The beginning philatelist can start with the stamps on the mail that arrives this very day. To remove a stamp from an envelope, carefully tear away the envelope from around the stamp being careful not to tear the stamp itself. Now soak the stamp in warm water. The remaining piece of envelope will turn loose, allowing you to lift the stamp from the water with the tongs.

Lay the stamp on absorbent paper. When dry, place a heavy book on top of the stamp to flatten it. As a past time, stamp collecting requires precision and neatness. Place the dried and flattened stamp in the album by using one of the hinges, or store it in one of the tiny glassine envelopes unique to stamp collecting.

Many collectors specialize in collecting currently available commemoratives as a past time. Stamp designs are varied, beautiful and interesting. Commemoratives are those special stamps that are released by the post office for a limited time. They can commemorate special people or events. Most nations print commemorative stamps from time to time. American stamps have featured wild life, artists, antiques, and many other themes. In fact, there is an annual contest in which American school children compete to draw the best picture of a wild duck. The best duck art is featured on a stamp.

A fun way for a young person to build a collection of foreign stamps is to find a few pen pals in foreign countries. This activity helps people make friends as well as broadening their outlook. There are also companies that will send out introductory collections of foreign stamps in order to get stamp collecting customers on their mailing lists. These collections are usually colorful and contain a wide variety.

Stamp collecting is an educational past time. Stamp collections can sometimes become very valuable to the right people. If you are looking for a new hobby or past time, stamp collecting might be for you!

Take A Trip To The Zoo With An Animal Rubber Stamp

No need to take those long strolls through the zoo with your whining, tiresome toddler. You can easily take a trip to the zoo without leaving your home. All you need is some paper, some animal sounds, and a few animal rubber stamps and you are in business!

There are several ways that you can visit the zoo in your home. If you are only wishing to teach your toddler some basic animals, all you need are some blank index cards (the ones without the lines) and an animal rubber stamp for each animal you want to teach your child. Stamp the animals on the cards, add your own animal sounds, and give your child a little bit of information about the animal.

If you want to take things a step further you can visit the zoo the same way that you would if you actually went to the zoo—by section. Using poster board, create a habitat such as a lion’s den, a snake pit, or the bird walk. Use an animal rubber stamp for each animal you would typically see in that area of the zoo. Add your own sounds and let your imagination and that of your child fly free!

Sometimes we feel like we live in a zoo when we have toddlers in the home. Why not really live in a zoo? Use animal rubber stamps to decorate your child’s walls, dressers, toy boxes, and beds.

If your child really likes animals, you can take a trip to the zoo as a part of their birthday presents and party. Use an animal rubber stamp for each of your child’s favorite animals. Stamp their birthday present wrapping paper, their birthday banner, their door prizes, their birthday card, their birthday invitations, and their streamers with the colorful animals. This will delight both your child and all of your child’s friends that attend the party.

If you take a real trip to the zoo you can use an animal rubber stamp to liven up your photographs. Create scrap book pages, borders for pictures, or create your own picture frames using the animals most loved by your family that were seen at the zoo. You can also use these stamps to depict moods or add humor to scrap booking pages or photo albums. If someone is acting silly, for example, use a monkey rubber stamp next to their picture!
